In Character Information Name: Minerva McGonagall Series: Harry Potter Canon Standing: Post-Deathly Hallows Age: 63 Birthday & Astrology Sign: October 4, 1935. Libra. Arcana: Strength
Personality: Minerva is the quintessential strict, no-nonsense schoolteacher. She takes no cheek from students and is always ready with either a dry, witty response, or an appropriate punishment for a transgression. Sometimes both. She desires her students to be the very best they can be and has repeatedly achieved results through her many years of teaching at Hogwarts as the primary instructor of Transfiguration. As a child, the Sorting Hat was unable to decide whether to place her in Ravenclaw or Gryffindor; eventually, she ended up in Gryffindor. As was the case with Harry Potter, this was likely a result of her own personal preferences, showing that despite being an incredibly intelligent and talented witch, she personally valued courage and bravery to a greater extent. Eventually, she rose to Head of House of Gryffindor and repeatedly demonstrated that she despised cowardice and back-handed dealings. In her personal life and as an instructor for her students, she strove to exemplify the virtues of Gryffindor by always being open, honest, and straightforward in her dealings, opposing corruption when she could, and never backing down from her convictions even in the face of grave danger.
Despite having a reputation for being particularly stern, Minerva has also repeatedly showed a softer heart. In Year 3, when Harry and Ron make up lies about going to see Hermione, she sends them off with a tear in her eye, demonstrating how pained she was at the thought of her petrified students. With Neville, a particularly hopeless student, she repeatedly chastised him for carelessness and his ineptness. But on a personal level, she sought to encourage him, snapping that his grandmother was a fool for not appreciating the grandson she had and pining for a grandson that only existed in her imagination. Even with Sybill Trelawney, whom she despised, she refused to allow Dolores Umbridge to throw her out of Hogwarts, fighting with the other woman and sympathetically listening to Trelawney's grievances.
Generally speaking, Minerva is even-tempered and it takes a great deal for her to lose control. As Harry noted, it took four years before he ever saw Minerva speak rashly out of emotion. Most of the time, she bears the various indignities and insults of life with great aplomb, occasionally indulging herself with her acidic wit. Though she keeps herself restrained, it's often shown that she has a great excess of emotion that she simply keeps to herself, such as when she becomes incredibly excited about Harry's promise as a Seeker. This lends itself to the makings of a strong leader, and Minerva eventually rises to Headmistress of Hogwarts, leading the school capably for many years.
Canon Weapons|Items: Wand: Fir, with a dragon heartstring core. 9 and a half inches. Fir wands are particularly suited for Transfiguration.
Canon Allies: None.
Canon Baggage: Several sets of robes and some eclectic potion components.
Persona Going with Option 1 for now! The Persona's name is Hecate and its Arcana is Strength as listed in the NPC page. As Minerva is one of the original Seven, though, I'm not sure if there's anything different about making a Persona for her. Let me know!
